I. 칼빈 | Calvin

하나님을 알지 못하는 인간의 마음은

세상 속에서 만족을 찾으려 하지만

결국 참된 안식에 이르지 못합니다.

인간은 지혜를 자랑하고,

수고를 자랑하며,

성과를 자랑하지만

하나님 앞에서 자신의 한계를 인정해야 합니다.

시간은 인간의 소유가 아닙니다.

수고의 결과도 인간의 손에 영원히 머물지 않습니다.

그러므로 하나님을 아는 지혜는

해 아래 있는 것을 하나님 자리에 두지 않는 것입니다.

모든 때와 모든 결과를

하나님의 섭리 앞에 내려놓고,

그분의 주권을 신뢰하는 것이

참된 겸손입니다.

The human heart that does not know God

seeks satisfaction in the world,

but cannot reach true rest.

Human beings boast in wisdom,

labor,

and achievement,

yet they must acknowledge their limits

before God.

Time is not human possession.

The fruit of labor does not remain forever

in human hands.

Therefore wisdom that knows God

does not place what is under the sun

in the place of God.

To lay every season and every outcome

before the providence of God

and trust His sovereignty

is true humility.

II. 코메니우스 | Comenius

교육은

사람에게 세상을 정복하는 법만 가르쳐서는 안 됩니다.

참된 교육은

인간의 한계를 알게 하고,

시간을 하나님 앞에서 받게 하며,

수고를 바르게 사용하게 해야 합니다.

많이 아는 사람이 반드시 지혜로운 사람은 아닙니다.

많이 가진 사람이 반드시 성숙한 사람도 아닙니다.

지혜로운 교육은

사람에게 묻습니다.

무엇을 위해 배우는가?

무엇을 위해 일하는가?

누구와 함께 걷는가?

전도서는

고립된 성공보다

하나님 앞에서의 겸손과

함께 걷는 삶이 더 귀하다고 가르칩니다.

Education must not merely teach

a person how to conquer the world.

True education must teach

human limitation,

the receiving of time before God,

and the right use of labor.

The one who knows much

is not necessarily wise.

The one who has much

is not necessarily mature.

Wise education asks:

For what do we learn?

For what do we work?

With whom do we walk?

Ecclesiastes teaches

that humility before God

and a life walked together

are more precious

than isolated success.

III. 본회퍼 | Bonhoeffer

제자는

해 아래의 헛됨을 외면하지 않습니다.

현실의 무게,

억압받는 자의 눈물,

수고의 허무,

고독의 아픔을 정직하게 바라봅니다.

그러나 제자는

절망에 머물지 않습니다.

하나님 앞에서

오늘 맡겨진 책임을 감당합니다.

모든 때를 이해하지 못해도

순종해야 할 때가 있습니다.

모든 결과를 소유하지 못해도

사랑해야 할 사람이 있습니다.

혼자 버티는 것이 믿음은 아닙니다.

하나님은 공동체 안에서

서로를 붙들게 하시고,

함께 걷게 하시며,

세 겹 줄처럼 쉽게 끊어지지 않게 하십니다.

A disciple

does not ignore the vanity under the sun.

A disciple honestly faces

the weight of reality,

the tears of the oppressed,

the emptiness of labor,

and the pain of loneliness.

But a disciple

does not remain in despair.

Before God,

he bears the responsibility

given today.

Even when every season is not understood,

there is a time to obey.

Even when every outcome cannot be possessed,

there is a person to love.

Enduring alone is not faith.

God holds people together in community,

makes them walk together,

and strengthens them like a threefold cord

that is not quickly broken.

IV. 어거스틴 | Augustine

인간의 마음은

시간 안에 살지만

영원을 사모합니다.

그래서 사람은

성취와 쾌락과 지식과 관계 속에서

안식을 찾으려 합니다.

그러나 하나님 밖에서 붙드는 것은

결국 마음을 완전히 쉬게 하지 못합니다.

해 아래의 헛됨은

인간의 마음이 잘못된 곳에서

영원을 찾고 있음을 드러냅니다.

참된 안식은

시간을 지배하는 데서 오지 않습니다.

참된 안식은

시간의 주인이신 하나님께 마음이 돌아갈 때 시작됩니다.

The human heart lives in time,

yet longs for eternity.

So people seek rest

in achievement,

pleasure,

knowledge,

and relationships.

But what is grasped apart from God

cannot finally give the heart rest.

The vanity under the sun reveals

that the human heart is searching for eternity

in the wrong place.

True rest does not come

from controlling time.

True rest begins

when the heart returns to God,

the Lord of time.

V. 오늘의 교훈 | Today’s Lesson

네 스승의 조언은 하나로 모입니다.

칼빈은

해 아래 있는 것을 하나님 자리에 두지 말라고 가르칩니다.

코메니우스는

교육이 인간의 한계와 함께 걷는 삶을 가르쳐야 한다고 가르칩니다.

본회퍼는

헛됨의 현실 속에서도 책임 있는 순종과 공동체를 붙들라고 가르칩니다.

어거스틴은

시간 안에 사는 인간의 마음이

하나님 안에서만 참된 안식을 얻는다고 가르칩니다.

전도서 1–4장은

인간의 수고와 시간과 지식의 한계를 통해

우리 마음을 하나님께로 돌이키게 합니다.

The counsel of the four teachers

comes together as one.

Calvin teaches

not to place what is under the sun

in the place of God.

Comenius teaches

that education must teach human limitation

and a life walked together.

Bonhoeffer teaches

to hold responsible obedience and community

even within the reality of vanity.

Augustine teaches

that the human heart living in time

finds true rest only in God.

Ecclesiastes 1–4 turns our hearts to God

through the limits of human labor,

time,

and knowledge.

VI. 오늘의 권면 | Today’s Counsel

오늘 모든 것을 붙들려 하지 마십시오.

모든 때를 설명하려 하지 마십시오.

수고를 하나님 자리에 두지 마십시오.

혼자 걷지 마십시오.

하나님의 때를 신뢰하고,

하나님 안에서 안식을 찾으며,

하나님이 주신 사람들과 함께 걸으십시오.

Do not try to grasp everything today.

Do not try to explain every season.

Do not put labor in the place of God.

Do not walk alone.

Trust the time of God,

seek rest in God,

and walk with the people God gives.
