I. 칼빈 | Calvin

하나님 앞에서 인간은

말을 낮추어야 합니다.

많은 말은

때로 경건의 표시가 아니라

자기 자신을 드러내려는 마음의 증거가 됩니다.

하나님을 아는 지식은

사람의 입을 겸손하게 하고,

마음을 말씀 앞에 세웁니다.

재물도 마찬가지입니다.

재물은 하나님의 선물로 받을 수 있지만,

그것이 마음의 주인이 되면

우상이 됩니다.

하나님을 경외하는 사람은

말과 재물과 판단을

하나님의 주권 아래 둡니다.

Before God,

human beings must lower their words.

Many words are sometimes

not a sign of godliness,

but evidence of a heart

trying to display itself.

The knowledge of God

humbles a person’s mouth

and places the heart before the Word.

The same is true of wealth.

Wealth may be received as a gift from God,

but when it becomes lord of the heart,

it becomes an idol.

The one who fears God

places words,

wealth,

and judgment

under the sovereignty of God.

II. 코메니우스 | Comenius

교육은

사람에게 말하는 법만 가르치지 말고

듣는 법을 가르쳐야 합니다.

하나님 앞에서 듣지 못하는 사람은

많이 말해도 지혜롭지 않습니다.

또한 교육은

재물을 얻는 기술만 가르쳐서는 안 됩니다.

재물을 바르게 받고,

바르게 사용하고,

재물로 자기 영혼을 속이지 않는 법을 가르쳐야 합니다.

참된 배움은

인간의 한계를 인정하게 합니다.

모든 것을 설명하려는 교만을 내려놓고,

하나님 앞에서 겸손히 배우며,

삶을 감사로 받게 합니다.

Education must not only teach

how to speak,

but how to listen.

The one who cannot listen before God

is not wise,

even if he speaks much.

Education must also not merely teach

the technique of gaining wealth.

It must teach how to receive wealth rightly,

use it rightly,

and not deceive the soul through wealth.

True learning teaches people

to acknowledge human limits.

It lays down the pride

that tries to explain everything,

learns humbly before God,

and receives life with gratitude.

III. 본회퍼 | Bonhoeffer

제자의 말은

하나님 앞에서 책임 있는 말이어야 합니다.

기도도,

서원도,

고백도,

사람에게 하는 말도

가벼운 표현이 되어서는 안 됩니다.

제자는

말한 것을 살아야 하고,

고백한 것을 순종해야 합니다.

또한 제자는

재물과 권세 앞에서 자신을 속이지 않아야 합니다.

재물은 책임의 자리이지

안식의 근거가 아닙니다.

권세는 섬김의 자리이지

자기 영광의 자리가 아닙니다.

헛됨의 현실 속에서도

오늘 맡겨진 책임을 감당하는 것이

제자의 순종입니다.

The words of a disciple

must be responsible words before God.

Prayer,

vow,

confession,

and speech to others

must not become light expressions.

A disciple must live what he says

and obey what he confesses.

A disciple must also not deceive himself

before wealth and power.

Wealth is a place of responsibility,

not the ground of rest.

Power is a place of service,

not a place of self-glory.

Even within the reality of vanity,

bearing the responsibility given today

is the obedience of a disciple.

IV. 어거스틴 | Augustine

인간의 마음은

많은 말과 많은 소유로도

참된 안식에 이르지 못합니다.

마음은 하나님을 향하도록 지음 받았지만,

자주 피조물 안에서 안식을 찾으려 합니다.

재물을 붙들고,

칭찬을 붙들고,

자기 판단을 붙들며

마음은 스스로를 만족시키려 합니다.

그러나 하나님 밖에서 붙드는 것은

마음을 쉬게 하지 못합니다.

전도서의 경고는

마음을 하나님께로 돌이키라는 부름입니다.

참된 안식은

더 많이 말하는 데 있지 않고,

하나님 앞에서 침묵하고 듣는 데 있습니다.

참된 만족은

더 많이 소유하는 데 있지 않고,

하나님 안에서 바르게 사랑하는 데 있습니다.

The human heart cannot reach true rest

through many words or many possessions.

The heart was made to be directed toward God,

yet it often seeks rest in created things.

Holding wealth,

holding praise,

and holding self-judgment,

the heart tries to satisfy itself.

But what is held apart from God

cannot give rest to the heart.

The warning of Ecclesiastes

is a call to turn the heart back to God.

True rest is not found

in speaking more,

but in being silent and listening before God.

True satisfaction is not found

in possessing more,

but in loving rightly in God.

V. 오늘의 교훈 | Today’s Lesson

네 스승의 조언은 하나로 모입니다.

칼빈은

말과 재물과 판단을

하나님의 주권 아래 두라고 가르칩니다.

코메니우스는

참된 교육이 듣는 마음과

재물을 바르게 사용하는 지혜를 길러야 한다고 가르칩니다.

본회퍼는

제자의 말과 소유가

책임 있는 순종으로 이어져야 한다고 가르칩니다.

어거스틴은

인간의 마음이 피조물이 아니라

하나님 안에서만 참된 안식을 얻는다고 가르칩니다.

전도서 5–8장은

헛된 말과 헛된 소유를 넘어

하나님 경외의 지혜로 우리를 부릅니다.

The counsel of the four teachers

comes together as one.

Calvin teaches

that words,

wealth,

and judgment

must be placed under God’s sovereignty.

Comenius teaches

that true education must form

a listening heart

and wisdom to use wealth rightly.

Bonhoeffer teaches

that the disciple’s words and possessions

must lead to responsible obedience.

Augustine teaches

that the human heart finds true rest

not in created things,

but only in God.

Ecclesiastes 5–8 calls us beyond vain words

and vain possessions

into the wisdom of fearing God.

VI. 오늘의 권면 | Today’s Counsel

오늘 많은 말보다

듣는 마음을 구하십시오.

많은 소유보다

하나님 안의 만족을 구하십시오.

모든 일을 다 설명하려 하지 말고,

하나님 앞에서 겸손히 서십시오.

하나님을 경외하는 마음이

헛됨 속에서도

당신을 지혜의 길로 이끌 것입니다.

Today seek a listening heart

more than many words.

Seek satisfaction in God

more than many possessions.

Do not try to explain all things,

but stand humbly before God.

The fear of God

will lead you in the way of wisdom

even within vanity.
